Tamarix
I once was a girl with eyes full of stars
And I loved the mysteries of how we fall apart
That's when I opened a lifestyle of crime
And it's a miracle that I'm still alive
I met a young man, his name was Charlie O'Hara
Lived on a cozy street just South of Aurora
I guess I caught his fancy so he gave me a flower
We ended up talking for hours and hours
I told him my problems and he read me his dreams
We were trading kisses by the pink and purple trees
I told him how I stole my first car
Then he went and turned me into the cops
Well I thought it was a slip of tongue
And that he could be my one
Well it turns out I mistook his care
For something that resembled love
I came out of prison with high self-esteem
Found Charlie working for the lumber company
I wasn't repentant and I didn't complain
Cause I was still stealing from men with big names
He said, "Hey Bonnie, I can't marry a felon
And I won't be buying the tricks that you're selling"
So I went and I whispered a threat in his ear
We went 'n got married the very next week
I once pretended we were in love
And that our story was enough
So Charlie kept me out of jail
By dragging us from coast to coast
He works days and I stay out at nights
Taking everything that money can't buy
I take it all home, Charlie stares at the wall
He won't talk to me, he seems withdrawn
I took a job at a small flower store
And I've been saving my money up for a while
Cause Charlie, he won't use a thing that I stole
And as of yesterday, he's out of a job
I know he's not the type of guy
To read the paper late at night
I know he has his own desires
A world, a life, away from mine
I've come to realize I'm a devious woman
I lie to cover up the things I've been doing
So I've been planning a day for me to leave
Cause I think it's finally time
For me to set Charlie free
And I loved the mysteries of how we fall apart
That's when I opened a lifestyle of crime
And it's a miracle that I'm still alive
I met a young man, his name was Charlie O'Hara
