Anvils & Hammers

It's raining anvils and hammers
And sea snakes and ladders
And I've been slipping in the mud
Like imaginary armor does
I pass motionless divers
The last known survivors
Of a world we once had high hopes for
And I'm sinking slowly to the floor

And the treasure's been plundered
By pimps, thieves, and hunters
Who'll send you to your death
And as we drift to the basin
The sharks and crustaceans
Will sleep in our beds

The sky is my father
But the sea is my mother
And she gives life then taketh away
As I'm tourniquet'd by manta rays
It's raining anvils and hammers
Monsters, mad hatters
And I'm clutching to a piano stool
Like a teacup in a whirlpool

Oh, I'll meet you at the bottom
Where our dreams are forgotten
But our fears come to life
There'll be a standing ovation
For the sharks and crustaceans
As we languish in style

There's no need to be afraid
Take it as it comes
Now we've sunk, the bed is made
Let your day be done
