For N

The last time that I saw you
They carried you away
Out of your apartment
Into the wet street
The keys in my trembling hand
I closed my door behind me
Now I was alone
Now I was in silence

You lived here for so many years
So many more than me
Saw buisnesses grow old and grey
And eventually dissapear
You helped me when I needed flour
And I carried your grocieres
Stayed for coffee and a cigarrette
And for you to make me laugh

Your round eyes were never bitter
And you told me that you don't need much
Would just be nice to have a little bit more
Maybe every now and then
And forty years of working
Made you crooked and not rich
And it was so sad to ask your son
Who never visited anyways

And I ask myself
Have you enjoyed your live
If your soothing words
Were real or not
If you sometimes cried quietly
So you won't disturb my sleep
If you loved your son
If you hated your boss
And how you would have said goodbye
I sat down on the floor
Leant my back against our wall and was alone
In silence alone
