A Solitary Tree

On all sides, surrounded
Jade fibers by the thousands
Sway in harmony beneath
Her branches and leaves
A single pillar ascends
Into an emerald arrowhead

On initial approach
Swayed by mirrors and smoke
I saw what I thought to be
An unblemished tree
But as closer I stepped
I found my findings inept
The sturdy pillar splinters
Thinner and thinner

A chip in the paint
A masterpiece does make
A wrong note played
Sounds human and unique
You were beautiful from the start
But I'll love you when you fall apart

The bark, chipped and worn
Weathered and torn
Branches hanging askew
The leaves, brown and chewed
No longer the arrowhead
Solitary in the center of a field

A chip in the paint
A masterpiece does make
A wrong note played
Sounds human and unique
You were beautiful from the start
But I'll love you when you fall apart

Every impurity I'm prone to appreciate
Every quirk I happily will celebrate
I've set my sights on you

A chip in the paint
A masterpiece does make
A wrong note played
Sounds human and unique
You were beautiful from the start
But I'll love you when you fall apart
