The Journey of a Lifetime

Born into poverty a life of struggle from the start
Hard work and sacrifice just to keep us apart
My parents did their best but it was never enough
We lived in fear of hunger and the cold harsh winter's bluff

But we made it through day by day
With hope in our hearts we found a way
We worked hard we never gave up
And we knew that someday our luck would change

I left home young to find a better life
I worked in the factory day and night
The work was hard the pay was low
But I never complained I just kept on going

Finally the day came when I could retire
I thought I would be happy but I was wrong
I had no money no friends no family

I was all alone in this cold empty world

But I'll make it through day by day

With diligence and ambition step by step
We conquered the summit no time to fret

I'm old now and I've seen a lot in my life
I've had my share of joy and I've had my share of strife
But through it all I've never given up
I've always kept fighting and I always will

Because life is a struggle but it's also a gift
And I'm going to make the most of it every day that I live
