A Losing Game

Two students boldly perched upon a roof
Take in a football game in dusky air
And though their spirits are at first aloof
Their true intentions are in time laid bare, oh

The players take their places on the field
The lovers-soon-to-be watch from afar
The home team seems the most prepared to yield
The other scores once twice, thrice, sets the bar
Like this bass player!

But then, a comeback! The count doth grow near
As do the students and the end of day
Alack, their players lose, they shed a tear
Heads bowed and holding hands, they turn away

But in their hearts of hearts, they know it's lame
A second loss, theirs is a losing game
And with our little tale in all its sadness
We see there are no men and only madness!
