I Could Be

I am not enough though I could be
As mother watches over me
As I wrap myself in chains that keep me tethered to this world
I am not enough though I could be

Mother collected not even a leaf as she sat
The birds and the dogs, and nature itself took care of her
So how should I meditate on this Goddess, pretending I want to be free
I'm not enough though I could be

I sit as a sage, but I am a common thief
My meditation is on the world and the blame is on me
For I know I am whole, but I'm cooling the fire in my heart
Without giving myself to the light, I'm left in the dark

I'm not enough though I could be
As mother watches over me
As I wrap myself in chains that keep me tethered to this world
I am not enough though I could be

For simple pleasures pour through my head
And I keep immortality on hold
My mind is a forest of heresy
Drowning in the leaves of withering gold

The cave of my heart is a lonely place
Deserving of the effort I've given
But the dedication it takes is not lost on me
And the sins of a child are forgiven

I'm not enough though I could be
As mother watches over me
As I wrap myself in chains that keep me tethered to this world
I am not enough though I could be

It takes only a spark to create a fire unhinged
To expand beyond the thought of "me"
A freedom awaits beyond the world of I and mine
And beyond the thought, "I am not enough though I could be."

It takes only a spark to create a fire unhinged
To expand beyond the thought of "me"
A freedom awaits beyond the world of I and mine
And beyond the thought, "I am not enough though I could be."
I am not enough though I could be
I am not enough though I could be
