Brighton Stones

Kneeling on my skin and bones
I'm seeing in the night
On the Brighton stones
I beg the sky for my life
I call up from the shore
Until there is no more
No more that I can give
All there is is all there is

At dusk I watch the starlings
Play charades against the sky
First they are an eel
Then they are a kite
And then they are a wave
And then they are a whale
Yeah next they are a typhoon
And then they are a sail
And they turn into the tide
And they sail out of sight
And leave behind the Brighton stones
Where I beg the sky for my life

'Cause when you're out there living you don't
Know just how much you want to live It's only
When your body's giving in
Do you know how much more you have to give
But all there is is all there is
I close my eyes and make a wish
But I don't suppose I can dream up
Anything as colourful as this
All that is is vivid
More vivid than a dream
And while it is just what it is
It isn't always what it seems

So ride it like a wave
You gotta ride it like a whale
Sometimes it is a typhoon
Sometimes it is a sail
Sometimes it is a love heart
Sometimes it is a tear
Sometimes it is a puff of smoke
And then it disappears
So close your eyes and make a wish but don't look away too long
'cause all there is is all there is
In a moment then it's gone

And I'd say nothing is forever
But maybe nothing really is
Maybe nothing is forever
Quite like nothing is
But if anything's for certain
It's that nothing ever is
And since everythings in motion
And all there is is all there is

Maybe next I'll be a wave
Maybe next I'll be a whale
Yeah next I'll be a typhoon
And then I'll be a sail
Maybe then I'll be a starling
Shape shifting in the sky
High above the Brighton stones
Where I begged the sky for my life
