Coastline

I wanted to be someone
Who read books on
The side of a window ledge

Pretend I'm the main character
But I've barely ever been
That person's best friend

I've tried, and I've seen
All the girls and their wannabes
The dance schools
Them smoking weed
Slipping through the blades in a guillotine

I'm struggling to find the words
And I don't even know what's wrong
With me

And everytime I think about it
Palpitations of the heart proceeds

God I'm trying
To make it on my own
And so I'm going
To the only place I've ever known

Where the shore of the sea
It meets the sand
Meeting new people
Getting drunk on the weekends

Where the stars and seagulls collide
You'll find me down by the coastline

From a young age
I always said the weather reflects my emotions
Collecting acid rain on my skin
And rubbing it in
Pretend that it's lotion

I've cried and I've screamed
About all the people in between
High school and eighteen
It's time to get out of that machine

I'm struggling to find the words
And I don't even know what's wrong
With me

And everytime I think about it
Palpitations of the heart proceeds

God I'm trying
To make it on my own
And so I'm going
To the only place I've ever known

Where the shore of the sea
It meets the sand
Meeting new people
Getting drunk on the weekends

Where the stars and seagulls collide
You'll find me down by the coastline

Bittersweet fragments in my mind
A burnt Pier does soon get revived
A stand of ovation for the neon lights
A vault of heaven
When they're celebrating pride

And can't wait to drink cheap wine
And whine about the ones
On my Instagram timeline

It's old school
But I'll be there with bells on
No longer a chess pawn

God I'm trying
To make it on my own
And so I'm going
To the only place I've ever known

Where the shore of the sea
It meets the sand
Meeting new people
Getting drunk on the weekends

Where the stars and seagulls collide
You'll find me down by the coastline
