Hot '80s Mom
She was the beating heart-the engine of our family of seven
She drove us to piano in a wood-paneled station wagon
She was my hot '80s mom
Now she's my hot mom who's in her eighties
From '69 to '82 she had five perfect babies
Uh, spoiler alert:
She doesn't think we're perfect anymore
Hasn't for a long time, to be honest
My hot '80s mom
Her hair was short not long
A neighborhood icon
My hot '80s mom
(Hot '80s mom)
My hot '80s
My hot '80s
My hot '80s mom
Was married to an orthodontist, they took care of all of us
While he was working at the office, she was a domestic goddess
In 1964 she was a beauty queen
Top marks for baking, beauty, poise and personality
In '65 she graduated with a teaching degree
But in the '80s she was my mom, taking care of me
She made us breakfast, lunch and dinner five days of the week
And the birthday cakes she made were a creative feat
When we had parties she would wear a fancy pinafore
She's the stuff of childhood legends and nostalgic lore
She was my hot '80s mom
Now she's my hot mom who's in her eighties
When she had free time she was doing service with church ladies
The caftans and velour
So wholesome and so pure
I'd play with all her bottles of perfume
In her shag-carpeted master bathroom
She had Shalimar and Chantilly
Ruffles and Salvador Dali
The shoulder pads, the peep-toed shoes
The handwritten checks for my field trip dues
She always looked like she walked off the set of Dynasty
But our family was her number one priority
When we were little we had no clue just how much our mom did
Like when she lined up at the store to buy us Cabbage Patch Kids
She was my hot '80s mom
Now she's my hot mom who's in her eighties
If moms were cars then mine would be the fanciest Mercedes
She wore glasses that took up her whole entire face
Now she's the textbook definition of aging with grace
No botox, filler, lipo, or pilates for her
And she was of the generation who could still rock a fur
She gave us bangs that started at the very back of our heads
And she read me chapter books before she tucked me in bed
She made our house a home and decorated everything peach
And a lullaby and hug were never out of my reach
(My mom)
My hot '80s mom
Her legacy is long
Forever my icon
My hot '80s mom
(Hot '80s mom)
My hot '80s
My hot '80s
