I was 21, I was carrying a gun
I tried to rob a store and now I'm on the run
They followed close behind me
And the evening turned to night
So I turned into a field
And I turned off all my lights
I slowly cracked my door, I started crawling on the ground
I could tell they were looking, so I didn't make a sound

Til they were far enough away

I walked into a town, started working right away
No one asked too many questions
I started saving all my pay
One day I met a girl, her name was Mary Lou
She said she dreamt of having kids and I said I did too
We moved way outside of town, built a small house on a hill
