The Sun Might Keep Us Warm

She quietly sat along side him
As he lay calm and still
A hint of light crept through the window
Tip-toeing across his face
I'm sorry she whispered
But you know what they say
As late as it is
These things shouldn't be left un-said

She sighed, then smiled
Kissed his cheek and wiped away a tear
Unfolded the page in front of her
And took a breath to read
I know some things of late weren't right
Off the track you'd say
But know that I believe it can pass
We will make it through OK

I'm sorry I went out without you
Left you all alone
I'm sorry I threw out your notes
I thought that they were done
I wish I hadn't of scratched your face
When waving at that fly
And make you talk about your dad
Sorry I made you cry

I know you didn't mean to say those things
Your temper did not relent
My stubborn side prevented me from seeing what you had meant
I wish I'd listened
I wish I'd heard
What your lips had said
You loved me then
Like I love you now
And will do till the end

She felt a hand on her shoulder
I'm sorry my dear it's time
A final kiss placed on his cheek
Where light no longer shined
Standing with a straining smile
She kept his ring
For his body was gone
She walked outside
All bathed in light
For now the sun might keep us warm
