Windowsill

Yesterday came and went
Without something of worth
All potential left unspent
His story from birth

He rarely would venture out
Nor give anything a try
He preferred to lay about
And let the world pass by

He was a stranger
To what was going on outside
And the greatest danger
Was thinking he could just hide

He looked over his windowsill
Saw all of the world that was burning
Even though it made him ill
He missed out on all things worth learning

He could not simply reclaim
All that had been lost
The metaverse was not the same
It had a hidden cost

Each day got more difficult
To grasp reality
Lost potential
The result
Of what was meant to be

He was a stranger
To what was going on outside
And the greatest danger
Was thinking he could just hide

He looked over his windowsill
Saw all of the world that was burning
Even though it made him ill
He missed out on all things worth learning

He thought that life could be
Some kind of circus he could just observe
But not having sense to see
The dangers lurking right around the curve

Fires approached his house so fast
He tracked on a device
And wondered how this came to pass
And what had been the price

He saw the flames at his front door
Then streaming on a screen
It was too late to do more
He was now trapped in between

He had sat at home
With unfulfilled desires
The world seen from the inside all alone
Could not put out those fires

He looked out through a windowpane
Saw all of the trouble brewing
Too late to have to explain
On all of the things worth doing
