Fire Season, Pt. 2

We made a home and it went up in flames
But our bodies are something the fire did not claim
On that day
We were just making plans to stay
And then our house burned down while everything changed
Y'all

I said I'm not the same
I see my home when I see yours in flames
I know the stench of that building is putrid
I know exactly how corrosive the soot is
But what it means to have to dig through that rubble?
To find your loved ones when most of us would just run?
The whole world is a Palestinian struggle
We want the freedom to stay where we're from
And the freedom to move, and stay human
All these images that we have been consuming
Are not meant for us to grow numb to 'em
Or to normalize the death of these children
I'm quite convinced by these current events
That genocide happens when we sit on the fence
And rebelling against it is just what makes sense
By any and all means
For the love of humanity
Outside of a war zone I don't know what's reality
When the soul of my soul needs time to mourn family
And they don't even get a minute to rest
From Gaza to the West Bank
Congo to Sudan
Tigray to all around my Mothers homeland
When the skies light up
You just lost your plans
And nothing makes sense
You go as fast as you can
These bombs left deep scars in the land
I don't know how it heals
I don't know if it can
I just hold these stories like seeds in my hand

May you grow, from the soil of our souls
The roots run deeper than our toil on these roads
May you grow into freedom for us all
We watch the world fall as these embers glow
With faith in a tomorrow that we may not know
The phoenix that is us
From the ashes of our homes
