The Wreckage

You wrecked my heart
From the start
As the passing cars shined
Headlights in the night
Picked up the pieces
Shrapnel in the ditch
On the side of the road
The rain keeps pouring down
The flowers on the ground
Bend down, drenched and cold
Repair my heart
Tin and twine
It beats so cold
But it's alive
Don't know how hard it is
To swallow a burning bridge
Fulcrum above the abyss below
And time reaches out to me
Tinsel around their tree
Not bound, but not ever free
In chains of gold

Reaching toward the top
Approaching is my stop
The dead end of this road
Anxiously await
The coming of the day
To reach our last abode
