No Return

I'm not going back

I remember all the times
We struggled to survive
Just waking up in the morning
And trying to open our eyes
There wasn't a penny in our pockets
There weren't any soles in our shoes
I didn't know how to stop it
I don't think we ever got to choose
I'm not going back

The kitchen with the peeling paint job
And the broken bathroom down the hall
There were artists in the basement
There was music creeping through the walls
I heard robbers in the stairwell
We were drinking spirits to keep warm
We didn't know what could be better
We were in love and feeling bold
I'm not going back

The local girls looked upon us strangely
And we were strange enough it's true
The local boys were kind and kept their distance
Well thank god because we weren't that good
We didn't need that much to be happy
Didn't need that much to stay the cold
And life felt there to be discovered
Love was new and we weren't old
I'm never going back
