The Chair

And I remain there
In my ol' chair
Sitting and drinkin'

While the sun dips down
Over the yard and town
It got me thinking

Gotta leave my possessions
Leave here for a lesson
Where the only suitcase is me

And by God's good grace
There was a time and place
Where you and I used to be

And the next day's new
Nothing better to do
Than to chase that American dream

The heartbreaking stories
To the moments of glory
We're tougher than we seem

Can't get much better
You're a real go getter
Gotta run until the tank is dry

The only thing I know
Is the way I will go
Gotta spread these wings and fly

And I sat there
In my ol' chair
Sippin' my last drink and

While the sun dips down
Over the house and town
It got me thinking

Gotta leave my possessions
Leave here for a lesson
Where the only suitcase is me

And by God's good grace
There was a time and place
Where you and I could be

Your life will choose
How much you lose
I won't be one of them

For you're a real tough fighter
About as rough as hard cider
Crazy from roots to stem

Sometimes it can seem
When you're light doesn't gleam
It's dark as the night is black

But with this photo I knew
Got a clear, perfect view
To help me put the pieces back

And I stood there
Got up from my chair
Finished my last sip and

While the sun dips down
Over the room and town
It got me thinking

Gotta leave my possessions
Leave here for a lesson
Where the only suitcase is me

And by God's good grace
There was a time and place
Where you and I will be
