Perilous Beauty

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Cocooned in catacombs of prior perceptions
Never ending misdirections
We are swallowed by the swarm

The delicate and the deranged hold tight in this tug of war
And our insides hide behind forced smiles and stares
Pretending to be something they're not
I tell you I am blooming
But there is an arid sharpness in my lungs
When I speak of where these steps have taken me
Keeping the truth sewn beneath the decadence
Of what isn't and has never been
Silent are the cries in this tumble through each new breath

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Cocooned in catacombs of prior perceptions
Never ending misdirections
We are swallowed by the swarm

Certain hours are hot with rage
Loud and treacherous, our own hearts
Bleeding flame and rain within the walls of this chest
Worry and weights of things dug up
And others fallen from the sky
And the anger teeters on being poison and strength
A narrow fence
A balancing act to not become the worst part of ourselves
To remove reaction
And live in thoughtful forests of the mind
Where all red sight can temper down
And be re-shaped and upturned into fruit lined trees
Evolving under our own fury
Leaving behind a scorched earth
For the warmth of growth

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Cocooned in catacombs of prior perceptions
Never ending misdirections
We are swallowed by the swarm

Crawling from the throat
Inching up and out
The breach
The blind light
With ourselves, we fight
And I am on my own tongue
Hoping my bones can keep my jaw from closing
This small me
This flesh torn blip from the tarpits of what I keep hidden
Deep, deep down
I grab hold of how you see me
And run so fucking far from how I see myself
And the air upon my face is fearless
Into me it goes and for a moment, I am something new
Something pure and clean
A tiny giant standing tall amongst the self destruction
And poisonous hands that cradle our world
And you are there, too
And you
And you
And this moment is ours
In these passing seconds
We are not alone

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Cocooned in catacombs of prior perceptions
Never ending misdirections
We are swallowed by the swarm

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Cocooned in catacombs of prior perceptions
Never ending misdirections
We are swallowed by the swarm

I said, we all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Cocooned in catacombs of prior perceptions
Never ending misdirections
We are swallowed by the swarm

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn

We all get these bodies
Yet remain unborn
Basking in bruises of old dissections
Scarred with fears infections
We emerge as so much more

This is joy
It will soak into our cells
It will change us
Evolve us
Carry us into the kiss of sky and sea
And it will go with the current and breeze after it cures
All that we are and were and what scarred and scared us is not a banished evil
But the rare miracle where happiness and familiar shadows dance
The bittersweet taste after we say goodbye
A discomforting hug of the hum in an empty room
When nothing makes sense
Nostalgia in the smell of old photo albums and books
A first kiss like strawberry and sugar
Mornings unsure and nights that leave too quickly
And how time moves differently with pain and pleasure
Our breaths so soft and strained
Our eyes hold light lost and gained
These lips of ours curve both ways
It will always come and go
Welcome to the perilous beauty of existence
