Coulda Shouldas

As the years go by, love slowly starts to fade
In the small things we lose, the love we once made
That crack in the front porch, in the house we call home
A symbol of the growing cracks in our love poem

I remember nights, holding you tight for hours long
Our hearts in rhythm to the same old song
But now there's a sadness in the way you sigh
Like old dreams saying their goodbye
Goodbye

Fading memories, like the fleeting summer breeze
We're falling out of love, like the autumn leaves
It's in the small things, we're growing apart
And, Lord knows each one is breaking my heart

The hum of the engine in this old truck
Like the whir of these years going by and by
The story of us beginning to fade
To how we lost the love we once made

In the small things, we've been growing apart
Here I am left with a breaking heart

Fading memories, like the fleeting summer breeze
We're falling out of love, like the autumn leaves
It's in the small things, we're growing apart
And, Lord knows each one of them breaks my heart

Left with coulda, shouldas, and nowhere to restart
Somewhere our puzzle lost a piece, then two
Now, it's halfway out the door, I don't know what to do

Left with coulda, shouldas, and nowhere to restart
Somewhere our puzzle lost a piece, then two
Now, it's halfway out the door, I don't know what to do

To be honest, some things seem beyond mendin
But if He can rise after three days dead
Gotta think He can raise the love we wed

Sometimes love's a choice, so let's choose it
Let's flip our script from a love that's been fadin
To a day-by-day decision, a love we're makin

Sometimes love's a choice, so let's choose it
Let's flip our script from a love that's been fadin
To a day-by-day decision, a love we're makin
To a love we're makin
