Daylily

could i show you the daylily
open on that bank
the rain on the ocean
or the calling of the waves
riptide and vertigo
pulling us away
oyster shells flickering
as they sink to the bay

cactus blossom
dusty summer haze
desert rain done
washed out that highway
copperhead in the garden bed
can you see?
i'm just trying to show you
a deeper part of me
and i don't know how
but if there's one thing true
it's that all of that magic
is a part of you

the well is deep
as the sky is steep, i know
you and me
we get high and we get low
when i forget myself
is when i feel free
butterfly, dandelion, bud on the tree
is the way i love you
so, let go
