Common Sorrow

Fading moonlight reflects off his tarnished steel
Once ornate several winters ago
He looks up at the domed worlds that float and hang
Wheeling through the horizons
O blessed sleep
He sank to repose, and his dreams lull him to rapture
He envisions you ascending an icy trail with flowers in your hand
And you descend without them
And he is not there
So much does suffering dull even the most fervent of men
But why should he describe a sorrow which all have felt
And must feel
After what seemed like ages
I awoke from that painful dream
The world was still veiled by night
And heavenly bodies flickered indifferently above me
I found comfort in their vastness
