Solidarity

Why would you hate us?
For being born a certain way
Why would you degrade us?
You know no-one ever chose to be gay
Why would we bother?
The pain of coming out
Just to love one another
The fear, self-loathing and doubt

We still can't hold hands in public
Or steal a kiss as we walk down the street
To some we're perverts, we're toxic
Keep a low profile, yeah keep it discreet
You say because we can marry
Why do we go on about our equal rights?
But with new burdens we carry
We know we must continue to fight

Well you can try to divide us
You who'd rather bear arms than to hold hands
But you will only unite us
We'll stand shoulder to shoulder across the land
Right now it's really not pretty
So many are injured and so many have died
But we don't want your pity
We want you to stand by our side

And we'll keep on with what we do
We won't wear a "straight" jacket for you
