Pennsylvania Waters

I spent some time away from home
Turns out I needed space to grow
Made peace with my mistakes
New friends all say that I should stay
I may

But if I die today
Don't pin me up in church for your display
Just take me to the river, let me lay
In the only ritual that's brought me peace
Underneath the waves
And if you cry I pray it meets the flow
Of Pennsylvania waters that I know
Fall within the current where I find my peace
Underneath the waves

Family wounds, buried deep
Carried shame underneath
Chasing fame just to cope
I misplaced all my hope
Made a friend, she got me high
Bathroom trip with open eyes
Saw my life as a simple man
Climbed a ladder, tool in hand
And up on the ceiling, saw life through my father's eyes
Envisioned his childhood, and the struggles that he survived
And I came to see
He's the same as me

But if I die today
Don't pin me up in church for your display
Just take me to the river, let me lay
In the only ritual that's brought me peace
Underneath the waves
And if you cry I pray it meets the flow
Of Pennsylvania waters that I know
Fall within the current where I find my peace
Underneath the waves
