Blackberry Bush

Lights in the hall are burning out
Lemon-scented chemicals linger around
Cabinets are as empty as my wallet and the left side of my bed

Stuck in this box, immobilized,
Sipping black coffee and boxed wine
Searching for a machine I can buy to advance the time

Until I get some daylight in my backyard
And a blackberry bush in my garden
And your delicate voice singing in my kitchen
And the piece of my puzzle to place and feel like a whole person

For now my patience wears thin
As I sleep by the phone waiting for a ring
Your face burst like a meteor through my fragmented screen
I'll see you sometime in the spring

When I get some daylight in my backyard
And a blackberry bush in my garden
And your delicate voice singing in my kitchen
And the piece of my puzzle to place and feel like a whole person
