The Day They Dropped the Bomb
Daniel turns left to the bar, he's well set to buy himself a drink
He's just graduated school, he's to be made a fool
Inside everyone shrinks
Boy, haven't you heard?
Indeed, all is absurd
Run back to your home, before the game is on
Luke's three years old
He's playing with a small toy his parents bought for him
And the TV's quite loud
Though he's still not allowed to browse through channel ten
And he doesn't understand
What those dressed up people are sayin'
Little Luke, nobody understands, how could you understand?
Sitting on his desk while he's signing out checks
The governor's fallen asleep
There's a knock on the door
'Come in' -but there's more to what his mind can see
Reelection seems frivolous
And politicians ridiculous
They were supposed to deliver us, instead they've crippled us
A couple walks by the street holding tight
They're busy planning the year
They're coming down fast, the news on the broadcast
A crowd is gathered near
And the year's no longer planned
For the fire will burn the land
Why would anybody plan when doomsday's at hand?
Mr. Policeman, please, forgive the haste
Can you help me and turn a blind eye?
I'm a bit late to work and was acting like a jerk
I'm guilty of speeding, aye
But the officer doesn't speak
He's just received a leak
Why would anybody speak when we're all gonna die?
And Professor May has been talking all day of thinkers, wars and myths
She's debating Kant when a distorted rant reverts the state of things
It takes a lot of will
To tell this ain't no drill
Her students laughing, still, they're about to be killed
And Paul's on a boat
He's teaching his grandson to bait and catch some fish
'It's all about waiting' -confidently stating
A cod's his only wish
On the horizon a light stuns
Though the day is almost gone
Then appears a second sun where it used to be one
And what about you, what were you up to when all that was was lost?
What part of your life, your still unlived life
Is it that you miss the most?
No sense can be made of it all
Indeed, all is absurd
Were you comfortably numb?
Did your body aches feel dumb?
Had you kissed your dad and mom the day they dropped the bomb?
He's just graduated school, he's to be made a fool
Inside everyone shrinks
Boy, haven't you heard?
Indeed, all is absurd
