Carolina Life
Ol' Jack came from western Caroline
Lived his whole life there, except the war
Drew his paycheck from the mills and from the mine
Like the rivers wear the rocks he'd walk his floor
He'd say I know there's lots of places that I ain't never seen
I've only loved this one girl all my life
But I know my faith, I know my friends
I've seen the mountains and the trees
And this Carolina life, it's been alright
They raised two boys who shared a single room
One moved to Dallas and the other never called
So Melissa'd go for long walks by the creek
While ol' Jack would talk to pictures on the wall
He'd say I know there's lots of places that I ain't never seen
But I've only loved your mama all my life
And I know my faith, I know my friends
I've seen the mountains and the trees
And this Carolina life, it's been alright
But that white coat Asheville doctor didn't look him in the eye
When he gave him just six weeks and then the bill
So they rolled their windows down and they smoked all the way back home
And watched the sunset fade to gray behind a hill
Ol' Jack came from western Caroline
Lived his whole life there except the war
When I saw him yesterday for the last time
We sat counting cars go by from his porch
He said I know there's lots of places that I won't never see
And I've only loved this one girl all my life
But I had the rain fall on my back
I felt the sunshine kiss my cheek
And this Carolina life, it's been alright
Yeah this Carolina life, it's been alright
Lived his whole life there, except the war
Drew his paycheck from the mills and from the mine
Like the rivers wear the rocks he'd walk his floor
He'd say I know there's lots of places that I ain't never seen
I've only loved this one girl all my life
But I know my faith, I know my friends
I've seen the mountains and the trees
And this Carolina life, it's been alright

While ol' Jack would talk to pictures on the wall

But I've only loved your mama all my life
And I know my faith, I know my friends

Yeah this Carolina life, it's been alright
