Paw Paw Tree

I have been a plush peach molding, trying to pretend
That I admire my fuzz, but I don't think that I am firm enough
I want to be strong and sturdy, as the trunk of a
Weeping willow tree

Let the sun soak in my long leaves, let the rain
Get soaked up by the striped socks on my fungal feet

I don't want to be a mimosa tree, blooming invasively in
The arkansas whirling wind, trying to pretend

That the ground around me isn't suffering, sometimes
I can't tell if we're blooming, or if we all, might just be
Beautifully... dying?

I want to be a Paw Paw tree, producing warm custard fruit
For the life and the death that pollinates me

I used to feed myself. I used to feed myself
To everyone else
Sometimes, I still feed myself
Sometimes, I still feed myself
To everyone else, but
Myself

I won't pretend any longer. I swear I will become firmer
I won't pretend any longer. I swear I will become firmer
