Made to Change

Is it the road, or destination?
Where we're going, or where we've come from?
Is it the eager or the patient?
How can you judge what I have not yet become
Oh the road it is winding and we're all trying to make it home
We've made mistakes, have gone astray, making it alone

But what makes a saint or a sinner?
A loser or a winner?
Our greatest triumphs or our greatest faults
Are we judged right from the start
Or from the last beat of our breaking heart?
How can we say who we truly are
If we're made to change
Are we always the same?

I've lived in shadow, bathed in light
Confessed by day, sinned at night
I hope that one day I will find
The answers to my questions but they are undefined
Oh the road it is winding and we're all trying to make it home
We've made mistakes, have gone astray, making it alone

But what makes a saint or a sinner?
A loser or a winner?
Our greatest triumphs or our greatest faults
Are we judged right from the start
Or from the last beat of our breaking heart?
How can we say who we truly are
If we're made to change
Are we always the same?
