Man of My Dreams

Saw you in my dream
Before I saw you on the street
A blurry vision, fading figment
Then a light that left me blind

Stood stuck to the pavement
And there he was behind the railings
Like a line, written, rhymed
Pulled off the page and come to life

Crossed the threshold, drawn to the shine
You called me a blessing, I called it a sign
It's functioning fiction, it's fate by design
And I wonder if I willed this all into my life

Plays out as I charted
Morning light, tangled sheets
But then you skim through the pages
You skip a line, you miss a scene

It's a moment, it's a minute
A glitch on my screen
A white grip, your smile slips
And then the ink starts to bleed

Crossed the threshold, drawn to the shine
You called me a blessing, I called it a sign
It's functioning fiction, it's fate by design
And I wonder if I willed this all into my life

And didn't I pray for someone like you
And when they all said it's too good to be true
I knew that I'd waited, and wanted enough
And I saw my own work in your voice and your touch

Pulled out of my writing, man of my dreams
So perfect it's warped, and I feel this unease
All a little too close, all a little too sweet,
Til one day it cracks and it's not what it seems

Crossed the threshold, scene of the crime
You called it a problem, they called it a sign
It's far from my fiction, we're flawed by design
Yet I wonder if I willed this all into my life
