Cat Got My Tongue

Dancing around like a ghost
In the shade of the trees, you never know
Every word but a whisper
If I'm heard then I'll make my great escape
I recall being twelve in the backseat of my mothers Chevrolet
Took our cat to die
Forgot to ask for my tongue back

Anyways I don't mind
I watch the world with quiet eyes
And they're mine, mine, all mine
So I'm fine, fine, just shy

Voice made of glass, though it felt
Every sound was led to death upon my lips
Those little moments where I said, I deserve to exist, I am well
All those years that I felt were lost in the chambers of my breath
Was only time to think, and listen to the world and what it said

Anyways I don't mind
I watch the world with quiet eyes
And they're mine, mine, all mine
So I'm fine, fine, just shy

Doesn't it make you mad
When every word is chained down within the depths
Isn't the silence wrong
Or is it only just a conversation with yourself

Anyways I don't mind
I watch the world with quiet eyes
And they're mine, mine, all mine
So I'm fine, fine, just shy

I watched my bones step out from within my skin
Like a butterfly from a cocoon
The way they waltzed out of my room
Shadowed eyes bright as mine ever were
The clacking of skeletal limbs dancing upon the concrete
A beautiful dance
Haven't seen them since
I've been stuck
Saw a fairy pass by my window
An elegant light illuminating every strand of hair
She looked at me
Or maybe she looked through me
I was only a withered collection of flesh
She laughed and winked at me
But I got a postcard
from the bones that once inhabited my body
In scribbled handwriting it said
I'm much better in my new skin
Thank you for everything
I smiled
