House of Ruin

I clipped the weeds, throughout the garden
Kept it clean for all to see
You let the weeds grow
Through the house and underneath

On the outside, it looks so serene
All who see are always smiling
But within, it's corrupt at the seams
The foundation rotting unseen

I couldn't see the damage you'd done
Staring at the ceiling while you took the floor
I was struggling while you had your fun
I will not take it anymore

Just like the house, I am still settling
But I can feel that it's unstable
My heart weighs heavily
Trying to beat, but it's unable

You smash all of the windows
The ones in which I paned
You ripped off all the panels
The ones I said I paint

I couldn't see the damage you'd done

I will not take it anymore

Collapsed and broken beyond repair
I do my best to gather the pieces

Grass and bugs cover the rooms
Cracks begin to surface the roots
A now content place, once filled with gloom

As I sift through the rubble, a smile forms on my face
I find all the nails and stones in which I placed

I realize the house was never ours
It was always mine
I start to rebuild from the ground
With all the pieces that I find

Although all the materials remain,
This new construction is not the same
I'm not rebuilding, I'm redesigning
New possibilities, I'm redefining
