Running from Myself

We met at the gate
And were asked to wait
He whispered in my ear
"How've you been all these years"
"Well, forgive me sir
But my memory's a blur"
He looked relieved
Said he had to leave
See I am running
I don't dwell
I'm running from myself
I fell with a thud
Back down into the mud
I had to find this man
Who whispered and ran
I combed field and town
And tracked him down
He told me, now heated
To leave him be and repeated
See I am running
Can't you tell
I'm running from myself
I was up the wall
Fully in his thrall
Tossing and turning
His words burning
Then he appeared at my door
Said "I can do this no more
I've run so far
But here you are"
See I was running
But I guess I fell
Running from myself
