Sweater

Last week of May
You were leaving my house
In dark blue flare jeans
And a white floral blouse

You said you had to go
But it was windy outside
Didn't want you to walk alone
Didn't wanna say goodbye

I stood next to you
Stars in our eyes
And I could finally see
How you looked
I could look at you endlessly

I said here take my sweater
I know it's kind of old
But it'll help keep you warm
In case you get cold

Here, take my sweater
For a minute, or ten
And when you give it back
It's an excuse to see me again

We walked a few blocks
Your hand in my hand
And I thought to myself
I hope this night never ends

I remembered how you looked
In my sweater, in the light
And I wondered where you had been
My entire life

I stood next to you
Stars in our eyes
And I could finally see
The wind in your hair
Your eyes on me
I wish I could look at you forever

I said here take my sweater
I know it's kind of old

And now I'll never wear it again
Without thinking of you
And how you saved me
That cool summer night

Making jokes about the future
And hoping one day like my sweater

I gave you my sweater
For when you don't have me
In hopes that when you're down
It'll make you happy

How we did that night
You can put on my sweater
