Diamonds in the Dirt

Once there was a lonely rock, just rollin' in the wild
Jesus came and picked it up, brought it to His eyes and smiled
Said, "You prob'ly think you're worthless
Something I would throw away
But I see something special here."
And He washed it clean that day

He broke off all the ugly bits; sometimes it hurt so much
The little rock wished it could go back to the barren dust
But Jesus trimmed and polished it till that inner beauty shone
And at long last, that little rock became... a precious stone

Diamonds in the dirt
Fortune in the field
Overlooked, except by You
Our beauty is revealed
Whoever thought a lowly rock could ever make You proud?
But there it was, refined and pure
A treasure that you found

I tell this little story cause that lonely rock was me
Face to face with glory when my Jesus set me free
With every trial, He holds me close and cleaves away my sin
Revealing more of who I am... a precious gem within

We're all diamonds in the dirt
Fortune in the field
Overlooked, except by You
Our beauty is revealed
I never thought someone like me could ever make You proud
But here I am, refined and clean
A jewel in Your crown
We're all diamonds in the dirt
Fortune in the field
Overlooked, except by You
Our beauty is revealed
I never thought someone like me could ever make You proud
But here I am, refined and clean
A jewel in Your crown
