Hometown

Yesterday my feet carried me
Down forgotten familiar routes
Down through the valleys lined with trees
They carried me down to my roots
Along the streets we used to walk
And up the stairs we used to climb
Where Our presence fossilised
And then got buried over time
I still smell the scents of this place
And Of my childhood memories
Of breakfasts on the porch in May
Blushing tulips and peonies
From the hills to the river banks
On Fields of green and rooftops red
Where stories bud and grow and bloom
And then get baked into our bread
Leaves turning brown
In my hometown
Snow falling down
On my hometown
I turn around
To my hometown
Hearing our sound
In my hometown
Leaves turning brown
In my hometown
Snow falling down
On my hometown
I turn around
To my hometown
Hearing our sound
In my hometown
Yesterday my feet carried me
Up the narrow mountain paths
Past rocks that were our thrones
Where stones echoed with our laughs
Up through the tiny neighbourhood
We greet strangers like family
There's no strangers in these woods
We grow together like the trees
I still hear the sounds of this place
And of my childhood memories
Quiet of night, the hum of day
The sparrow's song, the buzz of bees
From the windows, to the meadows
Into my bedroom with a view
Of little town that I call home
Where stories come back and come true
Leaves turning brown
In my hometown
Snow falling down
On my hometown
I turn around
To my hometown
Hearing our sound
In my hometown
Leaves turning brown
In my hometown
Snow falling down
On my hometown
I turn around
To my hometown
Hearing our sound
In my hometown
