Cardboard box emotions

One... two

Sitting on my bedroom floor
Surrounded by clothes I don't wear anymore
Mom says "clean up", I say "what for?"
My life's a mess, can't you see?
It's not about the laundry

Cardboard box emotions
Fragile, handle with care
Packing up all my notions
Of what's fair and what's not there
Tape it up, write "Feelings" on the side
Maybe then they'll all subside

School's a cage, a place I can't escape
Fluorescent lights shape my fate
Teachers drone, classmates groan
I'm just here taking notes
On how to be a ghost

Cardboard box emotions
Fragile, handle with care
Packing up all my notions
Of what's fair and what's not there
Tape it up, write "Feelings" on the side
Maybe then they'll all subside

They say these are the best years
But my tears disagree
College tests and fears
Lightheaded I can't see
When does it get better?
When do I feel free?
Is this forever?
Or just temporarily... me?

Cardboard box emotions
Fragile, handle with care
Packing up all my notions
Of what's fair and what's not there
Tape it up, write "Feelings" on the side
Maybe then... maybe then
Maybe then I'll feel alive

Alive, alive, alive, alive
Cardboard box emotions
Just trying to survive
