The Fog

We drove through the fog
Across the golden gate
And looked out on the city
The light looked so pretty
And she welcomed us all
With her open arms
And we marched in the streets
With the rest of the freaks

And we didn't have to choose
Between living life
And losing it

But a new fog set in
And we're locked away
In our worlds all alone
Just some noise on the phone
And we built up these walls
And they never went away
We felt safe from attacks
Now it's a long way back there

It's easier to choose
To build a wall
Than to break right through it

Does everybody else
Feel this too?
We can barely even call
Each other human
Is there any hope at all
That we'll see the truth
The things that make us different are
The things we need to value

Now it's starting to rise
The fog is lifting
But we're scared of the pain
From the divides that remain
But deep down in our hearts
I know there's still a way
To come together again
And we can still get back there

We simply have to choose
To get out of the fog
And make a future
Where we break down all these walls
And remember what we used to be
