The Ones We Admire
Stumbled out
To a bar
Where I drank away my anger at the day
Had to shout
Went too far
Had a buddy take my keys away and say,
Let me drive you home, Okay?
No? Well then, I guess you'll just have to walk, asshole
I walked home
Through the rain
On a dark and lonely backroad out of town
Lost my phone
And my brain
Car that hit me never saw me spin around
Hit a post and I went down
I don't know how long I lay there in the rain
Or how many cars slowed down then drove away
But I woke up with an IV in my arm Doc said I'd almost bought the farm
Said the stranger
Who found me
Raised me up
And bound me
Bound my wounds
Apparently, this is what that stranger said
The ones we admire
Are the ones who do for others
Respect and compassion
Is how they live their lives
I've been lifted up myself
So many times, I see my brothers
Needing help, I take some action
So they can survive
And maybe you
Tryin' something new
Different point of view
You can do it too
What the hell?
I healed up
Found whoever brought me in had paid my bill
Couldn't tell
What was what,
But I felt meaner than a skunk who shoots to kill
Like I had signed a living will
I went back
To the bar
Where my buddy sat and handed me my keys
He made a crack
'Bout the car
That had treated me like some kind of disease,
Smackin' me aside with ease
And I told him
I don't know how long I lay there in the rain
Or how many cars slowed down then drove away
But I woke up with an IV in my arm Doc said I'd almost bought the farm
Said the stranger
Who found me
Raised me up
And bound me

And maybe you

You can do it too
Me? Me? Me? Me?
Aw, come on now
The ones we admire
Are the ones who do for others
