Deep Sea Mussel

I'm a deep sea mussel, bathymodiolus if you prefer
When I was young I glided over the ocean
A thousand miles or more from the Gulf of Mexico
To a hydrothermal vent in the Mid Atlantic

It's pretty dark here five thousand feet below the waves
But it's alright, I love my chemosynthesisers
I'm never alone here, with my billion symbionts
Who love and depend on me, to keep them safe and well

I don't get get - g-g-g get around so much these days
Because I'm stuck stuck stuck on a rock on the ocean bed
Don't get me wrong, I like it, I don't want to leave

Please don't eat me, you'll regret it if you do
Because of the toxins, don't say I didn't warn you
At least I won't wake up in a freezer on my way to a bouillabaisse
A seafood linguini, or even moules-frites

I write songs for no one but I'd like to sing them in a band
We could be The Bivalves, maybe Just a little bit Shellfish
I'd like a happy song from the ocean depths
Maybe in a wave on a Cornish beach you'll hear an echo
