Ghosts in Liminal Spaces

Oh, how young and aspiring were we to die trying below the nocturnal bluish glow?
Yeah, how naive were we to believe we'd be something more than nothing at the end of It all?

Of infinite expanse
God always laughed at our plans to make it to heaven via best intentions
Bright as Hollywood stars while taking shots behind bars
Sentenced to a lifetime of empty promises

Could've been anything or anywhere, like two ghosts trapped in a reel, or strung out in The neon blackness, driving their long-gone hopes out to who knows where
As they're sinking looking up to the sky, it cries right back
Their screaming juxtaposed with the silence and brightness, Christ, how it felt to be alive

But I can't recall
No, I don't feel anything at all
