Is Not Mollberg Coming

Is not Mollberg coming? Yea, just of late
His steed did neigh by yon Greenlund gate
There stood he exchanging, pipe at his pate
Whilst patting his dog in its shaggy state
Clad was he in his dark blue surtout
With belt round his waist, pistols and spear true
Proudly did flourish, his arm's knot askew
Which ended in blossom, a bright, final view

Aunt's Brunte from Wismar, long-necked and ill
Stood sipping from barrels near hostler's still
By a coach with soldiers, hued with bright thrill
Its axle and wheels bearing scars from the hill
Hail comrades! The old man is known to thee
Behold! Where he comes, chest proud as can be
Crack! Hear how he snaps the whip on the lee
Crack, crack, hear it echo with glee

See how his hair doth flutter back and fore
With small curl-papers, tied with care and more
Stirrups and spurs blackened by road's bore
And his steed as meek as a lamb in core
Hurrah Mollberg! Good morrow! Good morrow mate
Say, what dost thou in thy basket translate?
Is it confections? And succades so great
And in the tub on thine arm? Turnip, spinach, late
And delicate schnapps!

Brother, to Nyboda's tavern I hied
Since Brännkyrka's chime struck ten, wide-eyed
There did I grease the sexton, Brother, beside
Five swigs per quarter he plied
The road, know ye lads, how did it bear?
Yea, muddy and grimy, - Huzzah dear Sire!
Each manor rotted, desolate and bare
The forest transparent, and clear as air

Utterly impossible to find a red gate
Only thorns and thistles, and tufted state
Empty lakes with north wind's chilling spate
Huzzah! - My eyes grow sour and irate
There for Madam, laid upon her bier
A shroud for her covering, - List to what near
My notes did I mark; let's see what is clear
My memory fails, I fear

Fish doth dance lively in the pail, and here
In the bundle lay pastries - Gods, I swear!
What did I forget, lads? On the list see there!
The lawsuit and coffin, my dear
Didst thou bring the brandy? - Yea, to the closet I went
Look upon its hue! What dost thou consent?
All in good order, Brother Mollberg, well-spent
Now feed thyself, brisk, and thy steed supplement
And drink whilst thou art diligent
