Sunday Mornings

I remember Sunday mornings going to church with my mama
We'd pull into the lot in that big Chevy Impala
She held my hand as we climbed the steps up to those big front doors
As we stepped inside, she wore a friendly smile
Greeting all who came before

I remember Sunday mornings like it was yesterday
Going to church with my mama in that big ol' Chevrolet

When the music started to play, it soon came time to sing
She'd pull the hymnal from the pew and help me find my page
Amazing Grace, How Great thou Art, so many I recall
We'd sing those hymns but mostly I just listened in awe

I remember Sunday mornings like it was yesterday
Going to church with my mama in that big ol' Chevrolet
She taught me to be humble and reminded me to pray
But mostly I remember her kind and gentle way

When she sang the congregation would often turn to see
Who was that lovely lady who sang so beautifully
I just smiled and tried to sing along in harmony
The lessons that I learned from her would be life's melody
My mama died many years ago but her spirit lives on
She rides upon my shoulder guiding me along
Thank you for the lessons, and for the gift of song
We'll sing again together, when the good Lord calls me home

I remember Sunday mornings like it was yesterday
Going to church with my mama in that big ol' Chevrolet
I had to write her song, so everyone would know
Of that lovely lady with the kind and gentle soul

Yes, she was a lovely lady with a kind and gentle soul
