Expecting nothing in return

I've given all I have it's never been a chore
Blankets money and food
I opened up my door
Letting strangers in offering my heart
Thought I'd always have a place I've always worked so hard
But life has a way of turning the tide
I gave it all away expecting nothing in return
But when the skies fell in there was no one for me to lean on
I'll keep my head high I know who I am
In a world that forgets I'm still the same person

Now the tables have turned I'm the one in need
Where are the friends I helped where's the good deed?
I lost my home my joy the warmth of their care
In the silence of night it's just me and despair

But still I stand tall I'm not backing down

I gave it all away expecting nothing in return
