Imagine a World Where Sycophancy Died and You Were Mine

Don't hold up any longer or else you'll miss your train
You've got a big meeting in the morning, an important local change
Your employment status dwindles and you only have one choice
Focus more on your school work, and spend less time on boys

Fix those grades as they fall down and sweep them off the floor
Give yourself a pat on the back, for good luck do it once more
Tell him nothing's in it for him, and it just isn't the right time
But you and him know that deep down inside, you'd love to give it a try

So distract yourself with your income, as the numbers shoot up higher
Not bad for a youngster yourself, but it still won't make you admired
You used to gain attention from the guy you knew at school
But now he's onto somebody else, and it seems you've lost your cool

It's not your fault and you know that but that doesn't seem to stop you now
Ignore him if you want but just know that, that's only gonna make him less proud
You were the reason he smiled; you were the reason he cared
But it seems it took him a while, and he watched as you stood and stared

So imagine a world where sycophancy died
And you were mine
