Carolina Quicksand

I was trying to find my own way
Through the darkness of night
Searching for a ray of hope
To be my guiding light
I would close my eyes to pray
For strength to face all my fights
The roaring sound of silence
Seemed to be the only replies

I felt as if I was falling
Something was pulling me in
As soon as the dust had settled
I felt I was being crushed from within

Couldn't seem to help it
I blame my desperate heart
The weight of being lonely
I thought was my greatest sin

Till I was stuck there fighting
In that Carolina quicksand

I was minding my own business
Not looking for anyone
Then you walked on in
And my heart had just begun
To beat a little faster
My head started to spin
With every breath I took
I felt the start of us begin

Soon, you had me falling
Pulling me right in
As the dust began to settle
I began to cave within

Couldn't seem to help it
I had to blame it on my heart
Ohhh the weight of lovin you
May just be my greatest sin

Now I'm stuck here lying
Pulling me right in, quicksand

Ohhh I should have known I was misguided
I blame myself for being blinded
Your mask of perfection hid your true persona
Of the part you tried to play

But instead, I should have known better
Pretentiousness you thought was clever
Instead really made me see the other side

Beneath the surface a heart so cold and wide
Consuming up anything you could pull inside
Your heart is truly like the Carolina quicksand

Feeling lost and broken
Like a bird with no wings to fly
The pain is like a token
Of all the tears I cried
Your rage would often break out
Causing ugly fights
What I was blinded by and wanted
Now had me trapped and pinned
I can barely breathe at all
Suffocated by the Carolina quicksand

Yeah you had me falling
Pulling me right in
As the dust began to settle
I was caving from the outside in

Couldn't seem to leave
Without it tearing me apart
Ohhh the weight of loving you
May have been my greatest sin

Now I'm stuck here fighting
Pulling me right in, quicksand

Ohhh the weight of loving you
May be my greatest sin
Now I'm left here dying
In the Carolina quicksand
