To the Gallow

Down in the dungeon's pit
All skin and bones
With gangrene gnawing my feet
I crawl in pain
As the veil of madness
Is slowly fading away

Eyes wide open
And free from the spell of the flute
I see now in horror
The awful things I've caused,
Betrayed by my naivety and greed

Sounds of steps down the stairs
And taps of the spears on the stone
The guards are coming in flocks
They open the locks for to grab
The mad king laying in rags

Dragged back into the light
Blinded by the sun
Hands firmly tied
They take me to a place
Crowded with a mob
Laughing and shouting at me
As I am taken toward the gallow

So is this how shall my days come to an end?
This fate I will accept, as it is, bitter and cruel
As unforgivable are my deeds, innocent's blood
Shed by my fault, I know,
Why isn't those I betrayed who take me to the rope?
Why did the power of the flute turn against me?
Will I ever know?

The rope is placed around my neck
What have I done to these men?
Their king comes on the platform
Speaks an empty speech to the crowd

That look in their eyes
I've seen it before
The wind carries the tone of doom
She is at a window, spreading the curse
She smirks at me as the hangman pulls the lever
