A Royal Kiss With The Softest Smile

He, out of pity, met a lady cutting words in her phrase downtown
Speaking fast and trying to negotiate her way in a poorer class
Along with the father, her sis and a mysterious friend
He was a fool

Said, "May I help you?," with just a touch of superiority
Not knowing he was dealing with a very different kind of pedigree
Offspring of nobility, sort of ancestry he had never seen
'Cause he was a fool

She looked at him and said, "It's fine, we're just getting things done here"
Speaking softly, he noticed how she'd figured out all his records at that point
"Son of divorced, low people, an unusual friend"
"Maybe a fool"

The stars were burning through the evening as they exchanged eye contact
Feeling wanted, he's climbing up the ladder struggling to get off the dirty pool of sand
She thought he was crazy, betrayed, a religious man
But he was a fool

'Tween the wee hours they found themselves entangled by the moon
And just like a landing, an unfair kiss was born and it died much too soon
He said, "The lips of a princess are soft and strong as this heart of mine"
"Or am I just a fool?"

In the morning, he was dizzy, thinking that was nothing but a dream
Woke up, she was leaving, sailing on the ocean waving back to the workers she had met
'Twas then she saw him, blew a royal kiss with the softest smile
Isn't that enough even for a lifetime?
