Edgar and Virginia

In old Baltimore where the shadows grow long
Lived a poet named Edgar with a heart full of song
He found his true love young Virginia so fair
But their love was marked by sorrow a tale of despair

Edgar and Virginia a love so pure and deep
Through the dark and dreary nights their hearts would always weep
In the dim candle glow their love would shine bright
But fate had other plans in the cold haunting night

He wrote of ravens lost loves and tales of fright
But his heart belonged to Virginia his guiding light
From "Annabel Lee" to "The Raven" so grim
Every word he penned was a tribute to her and him

Edgar and Virginia a love so pure and deep
Through the dark and dreary nights their hearts would always weep
In the dim candle glow their love would shine bright
But fate had other plans in the cold haunting night

In sickness and in health they clung to each other tight
But Virginia's breath grew weaker like a fading light
Consumption took her slowly stealing her away
Edgar's heart was breaking as she slipped day by day

On a midnight dreary while the storm winds blow
Edgar wept for Virginia letting his sorrow show
With a whiskey in hand and a quill in his grasp
He penned his darkest verses to make their love last

Edgar and Virginia a love so pure and deep
Through the dark and dreary nights their hearts would always weep
In the dim candle glow their love would shine bright
But fate had other plans in the cold haunting night

So if you ever read his verses of love and despair
Remember Edgar and Virginia the love they shared so rare
Raise a glass to the poet and his tragic love's flame
For in the heart of darkness their love will always remain

Their love will always remain

Their love will always remain
