The Burial

Something so precious
Giving light to all
In a fortress made sacred
Thought never to fall
Then plague of the ages
Invasive and swift
Brings fire that rages
Destroys from within

Only Blood can smother the consuming plague
I believe you'll return though I stand at your grave
We carry on in this lightless life
Pressing on past the myriad of lies

Buried here in the ground, oh
My heart could never leave you there
But I know
In the stillness, you are resting
I'm running away

Those who were not there
To see the light slowly die
Don't know the anguish
Of ash in the sky
I pray there's an ember
Buried deep in that tomb
One day may it rise up
Shine ever true
