Telling Time

I can't tell time
It won't do what I say
I try to take control of time
But time always gets its own way
Time waits for no one
So goes the old cliche
But if you wait until the time's just right
You can watch time slip away

I've heard it said by people who know that
Only time will tell
But time don't say a single thing
And I suppose that's just as well

I can't trust time
It seems to come and go
And where it went when it's gone
I swear that I don't know
More and more and On and On
I watch time dissapear
Into itself or something else
And it leaves me waiting here

The universe is particular
About the time it will allow
The only time it does approve of
Is the moment happening now

I can't save time
It doesn't want to last
It's here for such a little while
And then becomes the past
The past can't be saved
It not really here at all
No more than the future is
As best as I recall

Seems to be a law of nature
That's universally true
That three o'clock is too early or late for
Anything you want to do

Time fills all the spaces
If you give it enough room
But it's still a mystery
How it got so late so soon
Time gives me everything
Then takes it all away
Things still seem to happen
In a weird but timely way

If time's a game
It's hard to play
It's got complex rules
And it takes all day
It's not much fun
And you just can't win
But it's a beautiful game
When it's played by children

Time is my enemy
Time's my only friend
It's something that I never earned
But I still get to spend
We're all given so much time
You can't get an extra bit
You can sqeeze or stretch it any way you like
But you'll never make it fit

I can't save time, keep time or take time
I would if I knew how
I thought I had a tale about time to tell
But I'm out of time right now
